Steven Arvanites Workshop

The Steven Arvanites Career Development Workshop was AWESOME.  He had each of us work on our 1 week, 1 month, 6 month and career goals.  It's nice to put it down on paper. Of course, I do this all the time, but I think those in attendance really got a lot out of the exercise.   For those who missed it, maybe we can bring him back again. It was [...]

Pilar Alessandra Recap

I heart Pilar. OK, I don't, but I have a big crush on the lady. She is exactly how she is on her podcasts. Not only is she super down-to-earth and sweet as can be, but she really loves what she does. Our interview session Friday night went very well. Despite having quit drinking coffee this week and suffering from a bout of food [...]

Pilar Alessandra. Woodywoo!

On a positive note, I am ecstatic that Pilar Alessandra is coming up from LA next weekend. As Brando would say, "Woodywoo!" That's his "hot girl" bark. No, really it is. We are so lucky to have someone of her caliber conduct one of her workshops for an extremely affordable fee. For those of you who are vacillating about attending the [...]

Marilyn Atlas Rocks

I've never met anyone who's flight was almost two hours late and they were still in such good spirits.  Actually, nobody is in a good mood at the airport. I knew when I picked up Marilyn Atlas from Sea-Tac and she was all smiles, that we were in a for a real treat this weekend. Coincidentally, Seth Talley, after a year of working on [...]

Holy Sheet (with Blake Snyder) and The Story Master (Michael Hauge)

Just got back from Blake Snyder's Beat Sheet Workshop at the Freehold Theatre. All twelve of us (9 NWSG Members, including a founding member/ex-Guild President) started with either a germ of in idea, a concept, or even a solid premise for three separate stories. We pitched them to the group and together we chose the strongest piece for each [...]

Seventy-Five is the New Fifty

A quick apology regarding the Michael Hauge Workshop. I sent some incorrect pricing information out and caused some confusion. The workshop is in fact $75 for NWSG Members, NOT $50. So far we have 19 registrants, so there is plenty of room left. But, please register ASAP so we can prepare for this event.

Catherine Ann Jones: The Way Of Story

I just met with the delightful Catherine Ann Jones. She is in town for her Way Of Story workshop in Edmonds and a book signing in U-District. My favorite story is when she heard Indian music for the first time - at her marriage to Raja Rao in Paris, with non other than Ravi Shankar playing during the reception. She'd love to come up this April [...]
