One of my favorite comics of all time just passed away. When Laura and
I merged our households, we had a few duplicate DVDs: Bill and Ted’s Excellent
Adventure, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Reservoir Dogs.

Another thing
we both shared was a love of stand-up comedy–Foxx, Pryor, Cosby, Murphy, Rock,
Seinfeld, Rickles, Smothers Brothers, Newhart, Rivers, Carvey, Mac, Cook, etc.
AND Kevin Smith films. George Carlin fits in both categories.

Sadly, I
was hoping to cast him in my newest film as the father of the bride. His mastery
of words (including the SEVEN DEADLY ones), impeccable timing, fearlessness,
and commitment to his craft are an inspiration to any of us trying to write
anything, especially comedy. He was just too damn funny.

George Carlin’s Filmography:

1968-With Six You Get Eggroll

1976-Car Wash

1979-Americathon

1987-Outrageous Fortune

1989-Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

1990-Working Trash

1991-Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey

1991-The Prince of Tides

1999-Dogma

2001-Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

2003-Scary Movie 3

2004-Jersey Girl

2005-Tarzan II

2005-The Aristocrats

2006-Cars

2007-Happily N’Ever After

We’ll miss you, Rufus.

Sydney Pollack died today from his battle with cancer. I don’t have a whole
lot to say, except that I really loved his work and always got excited when
he dropped in on a TV show in cameo role. He will be sorely missed by anyone
who loves movies. It’s a sad day.

I want to remind everyone of a few of his projects as a multi-talented Hollywood heavyweight:
Michael Clayton, Entourage, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Sabrina, The Firm, Dead Again, King Ralph, Presumed Innocent, Out of Africa, Tootsie, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Cold Mountain, Sliding Doors, Absence of Malice, Eyes Wide Shut, Three Days Of The Condor, Jeremiah Johnson, Ben Casey, Will and Grace, The Sopranos, Frasier, and many more. Variety Article

According to Variety, Producer-writer-director Anthony Minghella died
at the age 54 of a brain hemorrhage. His credits include "Cold Mountain," "The
Talented Mr Ripley," "The
English Patient" and "Truly Madly Deeply." I was a huge fan
of both Cold Mountain and Talented Mr. Ripley. It’s sad to see someone with
his talent and vision go so young and just out of nowhere.
