Indiana Jones and Final Draft

Indiana Jones and Final Draft

Today was a good day. #1 - I got to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. No spoilers here, I promise. I thought it started out a little slow and expositional, but Laura reminded me that they needed to set it up for the younger viewers. OK, I'll give her that one. I thought once the ol' hat and lasso were back in the [...]

Gray Days and Grants

Anyone else feel unmotivated to write during these gray days? I'm having a helluva time getting in the seat. So, I'll just jot down this little blog entry to get some writing in. Sheesh. I hope this winter will end soon. On a cheerier note, I'm happy to announce that we've received an institutional grant from AMPAS (The Academy guys - the [...]

Board Member Nominations and Voting

To ensure that all NWSG members who have paid their dues have a chance to nominate and vote for Board Members, we ask that NWSG members send in their nominations for Board Bembers. Nominations can also be raised at the meeting. Nominees will be voted on at the meeting before our speaker begins. This will be the only time that members can [...]

Back in the Saddle

I'm happy to report that after our first Board Meeting of 2008, we have some great programs in the works.  Check out the Events page for more details. We just applied for a 2008 AMPAS institutional grant. If we get it again this year, it'll mean more financial support for our upcoming slate of A-List speakers. I'd also like to welcome [...]

Formatting and Parking

Anyone else exhausted from the past weekend? I know I am. But, I am excited about applying Hauge's theories on character, especially the discussion about identity vs. essence. A couple of things: 1. FORMATTING: I want to allay your fears that you may be formatting incorrectly after Hauge's assessment of our scripts. He mentioned using David [...]

Full House

I just got home from tonight's well-attended meeting starring the ovo-lacto Michael Hauge. After playing the opening clips from Brokeback Mountain and Wedding Crashers, he covered a lot of ground regarding openings, developing your hero, how to ask a question properly, and common mistakes that screenwriters make, including improper formatting and [...]

Seventy-Five is the New Fifty

A quick apology regarding the Michael Hauge Workshop. I sent some incorrect pricing information out and caused some confusion. The workshop is in fact $75 for NWSG Members, NOT $50. So far we have 19 registrants, so there is plenty of room left. But, please register ASAP so we can prepare for this event.

Hi Everybody!

Hi Everybody, I wanted to drop a quick note letting you know what's coming up.  Let's get some business out of the way. We have raised our rates for Associate Membership to $75.00 per year. (It's only the equivalent to an extra cup of drip coffee per month.) We have made this decision in order to provide equal or better service to our [...]
